President ICYS : Zsuzanna Rajkovits, Eotvos University Budapest, Hungary International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) is founded by Zsuzanna Rajkovits from Hungary and Leonid Markovich from Belarus. ICYS competition is first held in Hungary in 1994, joined by 5 countries. After 3 times held in Hungary each year, it is also held in Belarus for another 3 years. Next, ICYS is held for the first time in west Europe, which is in Netherlands in 2000. ICYS is held in different countries of Europe ever since, and became a competition exclusive for the continent. ICYS 2010 is the first time ICYS is held outside Europe, which is in Indonesia As the host of ICYS, Indonesia’s National Education Department High School Directory has prepared this event carefully. Seeing these well preparations of the ministry, including financial problems, Zsuzanna addressed her gratitude. She hoped that ICYS in Bali will be conducted successfully, just like the previous conductions in other countries.
Actually, the purpose of ICYS is to give chances for high school students to present their projects. Besides that, they are given skills to be applied at the years of college. Through ICYS, they will attain new experiences, including for the teachers. In this competition there are four major points of criteria that is used by the jury team to assess the participants: Originality, Motivation of participant, presentation, and results. In this case, presentation is one of the most determining point because the ability to communicate in English actively is just as important as the content of the presentation
According to Zsuzsanna, ICYS will give chance for students to present their researches. “And we want to teach students the steps to create good scientific project. Moreover those skills will help students to succeed in their education,”
ICYS that is held in Bali will certainly affect the participants, especially when it comes to the climate, because most participants come from Europe. In her opinion, Bali is not that hot, but the air is humid. Zsuzsanna and her colleague are pleased to be here. She also praised Bali for the beautiful beaches. Fanny/Rinda/Garlan/Ian |
