Dr. Mukhlis Catio, M.Ed, : ICYS Awaken the Researching Culture. The gathering of High School students from all around the globe in the International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) on 12th-17th April in Bali, is a reflection of a long and established researching culture that Indonesia have. ICYS is a prestigious international event. In this event, 12 Indonesian students from across the country will present their research in front of the judges. They will compete with participants from Belarus, Brazil, Croatia, Germany, Georgia, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. In his explanation, Dr. Mukhlis Catio M.Ed, Head of High School Student Directory from the National Education Department, said, “Indonesian students journey in participating ICYS starts from 1200 researches that has been selected into 12 students that are really qualified and potential. Their researches are great. We’ve prepared ourselves since December 2009.”
Furthermore, Dr. Mukhlis Catio addressed, ICYS can give a new experience for students in Indonesia. Besides the knowledge that they get, this event can also increase the friendship among countries. “They can learn lot of things, not only in the presentation but also as an opportunity to exchange culture, language with other participants. Through ICYS, students can excel their ability in delivering their research professionally, with structure and systematically. Besides that, it gives an opportunity for the Indonesian students to explain their opinions.”
“Events like this will clearly bring positive impacts and will be one of the indicators to examine the quality of our education. Another important thing is no ordinary student can join this event. Those who participate have to have a strong mentality, able to explain their research with confidence. With that, it could increase the researching interest and culture inside other students in Indonesia. This is an international event.
